Bienvenido N. Santos Creative Writing Center Resident Writers
A well-renowned novelist in Filipino, Abueg obtained his M.A. in Language
and Literature (Filipino) from De La Salle University. He was the Director
of the Student Publications Office of the university from 1984 to 1987. He
has published three books of stories and essays: Bugso, Tradisyon (Kasaysayan
ng Panitikan ng Pilipinas: Mula Alamat hanggang Edsa), and Ang
Mangingisda: Mga Kuwento kay Jesus. His acclaimed novels include Dilim
sa Umaga, Habagat sa Lupa, and Dugo sa Kayumangging Lupa. He is
a multi-awarded fictionist, winning six Carlos Palanca Memorial Awards for
his short stories, the Philippines Free Press Award for the short story in
Filipino, and four Liwayway Literature Prizes for his novels. He is also a
recipient of the Balagtas Memorial Award, Gawad Pambansang Alagad ni
Balagtas, and Gawad Quezon sa Panitikan. Abueg’s creative works and
essays have graced the pages of magazines like Liwayway, Bulaklak,
Tagumpay, Mod, and Homelife.
